How does the check-in system work?

You set a check-in period (e.g., every 7 days). If you miss your check-in window, LastingNote will automatically deliver your messages to your designated recipients. You can check in via the iOS app, web dashboard, macOS menu bar, Windows tray, CLI, or even by replying to an email or SMS.

What happens if I forget to check in?

LastingNote sends you multiple reminders via email and push notifications before your deadline. There is a grace period after the deadline to give you extra time. Only after the grace period expires will your messages be delivered to recipients.

Can I change my security mode?

Your security mode (Guardian or Automatic) is permanent once chosen. This is by design to maintain cryptographic integrity and ensure your messages remain secure. If you need a different security mode, you can create a new account.

How do I reset my password?

In Guardian mode, you reset your password using your 12-word recovery phrase that was given to you during account setup. In Automatic mode, you can use the standard password reset flow via email. Without your recovery phrase in Guardian mode, your encrypted data cannot be recovered.

Is my data really private?

In Guardian mode, your messages are encrypted on your device before they ever reach our servers. We use ChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption with Argon2id key derivation — the same standards used by security professionals. Even LastingNote cannot read your messages. In Automatic mode, encryption keys are managed server-side for guaranteed delivery.

What platforms are supported?

LastingNote is available on iOS (native app), web dashboard (any browser), macOS (menu bar app for auto check-in), Windows (system tray app for auto check-in), CLI (for developers and AI assistants), and email/SMS (reply to check in). Write your messages anywhere, check in from everywhere.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through the app settings on iOS or via the web dashboard under Account Settings. Your messages remain stored and scheduled even after cancellation until your account expires.
